Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis: Ukrainian leaders thank Lithuania and its people for their leadership in mobilising support for Ukraine, urge European countries not to slow down the pace of assistance

On 28 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis, together with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Norway and Sweden, met with Ukraine's President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna.

“Ukraine's leaders thanked Lithuania and its people for their leadership in mobilising support for Ukraine and urged European countries not to slow down the pace of assistance. Tanks, artillery systems and other heavy weapons — all of this will help to bring Ukraine’s victory closer,” Landsbergis said.

In a discussion with the Foreign Ministers of seven European countries, the President of Ukraine noted that it was vital to ensure an uninterrupted supply of heavy weapons, especially tanks, for Ukraine’s victory.

“Ukraine’s will to defend itself and courage have proved that it is an integral part of the European security architecture, which strengthens the entire European continent. Ukraine’s experience in defending itself and its freedom on a brutal warfield will certainly enhance NATO and our security,” Landsbergis said.

With Ukraine’s Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, the Foreign Ministers discussed the reconstruction of Ukraine and reforms that were needed to help Ukraine recover as soon as possible and overcome the consequences of the war.

“This visit by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of seven European countries and the joint statement of the Foreign Ministers of Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Ukraine is a clear announcement to Ukraine and the world that Ukraine is a part of Europe and that it is our common responsibility to help the country win and end Russia’s barbaric war,” said Landsbergis.
