Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis to visit Oman and Egypt
On 9-12 October, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis is paying a working visit to Oman and Egypt, during which he will attend a meeting of the 27th session of the EU-GCC Joint Ministerial Council and hold bilateral meetings.
The meeting of the 27th session of the EU-GCC Joint Ministerial Council on 9 and 10 October in Oman’s capital, Muscat will confirm the EU’s commitment to a strategic partnership with the Gulf region. It will focus on issues of regional security, cooperation on trade and investment, climate change, development and humanitarian aid. At the Joint Ministerial Council, Landsbergis will speak about the global implications of Russia’s war aggression against Ukraine.
During the visit to Oman, Landsbergis plans to hold bilateral meetings with Ministers of Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The meetings will discuss the strengthening of bilateral cooperation. In addition, proposals for strengthening economic and trade relations, encouraging tourism exchanges, and speeding up the signing of bilateral legal cooperation agreements will be presented.
It is the first official visit of Landsbergis to Oman. On 21 February 2022, Landsbergis attended the 26th session of the GCC-EU Joint Council and Ministerial Meeting in Brussels.
On 11-12 October, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister will pay his first official working visit to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, where he will meet with the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, other senior Egyptian officials, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The participants of the meetings will discuss political relations between Lithuania and Egypt, economic and trade cooperation and exchange views on items of the multilateral agenda.
On 22 January 1992, Lithuania established diplomatic relations with Egypt. Since 2001, the diplomatic representation of Lithuania has operated in Cairo.
