Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis to visit Greece
On 20-21 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis will be visiting Athens, Greece, where he will meet with the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.
The meeting will focus on strengthening support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s brutal aggression and on mobilising efforts by European countries and the international community to counter the Kremlin’s aggressive policies.
During his visit to Athens, Landsbergis will also discuss bilateral cooperation issues, initiatives on strengthening European energy security, the situation in the neighbourhood of the European Union, the enlargement of the EU, important regional security issues and other items on the EU and international agendas.
Landsbergis intends to present a joint initiative of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia, urging the EU, together with international partners, to help Ukraine set up a Special Tribunal. The Tribunal would prosecute the crime of aggression, fill the current jurisdictional loophole, and ensure Russia’s accountability for atrocities committed in Ukraine.
The chief of Lithuania's diplomacy will also hold a meeting with the President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou and will visit the Hellenic Parliament, where he will meet with the Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Gioulekas. Landsbergis will then take part in a round table discussion with the Greek foreign policy experts.
This year, Lithuania and Greece celebrate the 100th anniversary of their mutual recognition, and the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.
