Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis to present the Balts’ Award together with the new Latvian Foreign Minister
On 16 October, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis will meet with the new Latvian Foreign Minister Krišjānis Kariņš.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Latvia will discuss topical issues of bilateral relations, including ensuring continued assistance to Ukraine, the importance of supporting Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration, the security situation in the Baltic Sea region, the sabotage of the Balticconnector pipeline, the significance of a unified application of sanctions on Russia, bilateral cooperation in implementing the Rail Baltica project, the illegal migration crisis at the Latvian-Belarusian border and other items on the regional agenda.
The Foreign Ministers of both countries will attend the 2023 Balts’ Award ceremony. The Balts’ Award recognises the excellence and achievement related to individual contributions and accomplishments in promoting the Baltic heritage.
Kariņš was appointed as Latvia's new Minister of Foreign Affairs on 15 September this year. It is his second bilateral visit to Lithuania. Latvia’s Foreign Minister will also meet with the Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė.
