Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis to attend the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council
On 20 February in Brussels, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis will attend the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council to discuss the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Afghanistan situation, and climate and energy diplomacy.
Foreign ministers will exchange views on the EU’s support for Ukraine, the outcome of the EU-Ukraine summit on 3 February, Ukraine’s reconstruction and boosting energy resilience, and aspects related to the anniversary of the war.
As the Taliban banned women in Afghanistan from working for international and local non-governmental organisations, ministers will discuss the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. They will also exchange views on the possibility to continue providing humanitarian support for the most vulnerable groups with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group Amina Mohammed.
Ministers will also discuss the EU’s external climate and energy actions in 2023.
On the margins of the Council, ministers will exchange views with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Nicu Popescu.
An informal meeting of foreign ministers with the representative of the Russian opposition Garry Kasparov, initiated by Lithuania and Poland, will also take place.
