Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis to attend an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague

On 30-31 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis will attend an informal meeting of foreign ministers of the European Union (Gymnich) in Prague, hosted by the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will be held from 1 July to 31 December 2022.

During the meeting, EU foreign ministers will discuss the impacts of Russia's aggression against Ukraine on the EU, the EU's future policy towards Russia, the importance of the unity of the Western countries and the effective response to Russia's aggression. Foreign ministers will also discuss joint action on the issuance of visas to Russian citizens.

“I hope that we will be able to agree on a common European solution that will significantly limit the flow of Russian tourists to Europe. This informal meeting is the best place for EU foreign ministers to exchange views, discuss and find common solutions. If all 27 EU member states fail to reach an agreement, the most visited countries may seek a regional solution in the future," Landsbergis said.

Foreign ministers will also discuss relations between the EU and Africa based on shared values and interests, the global consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine and challenges facing African countries.

The meeting of EU foreign ministers with the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia will focus on the European outlook for Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia (the so-called Associated Trio), the future of the Eastern Partnership, European aspirations of the partners and further implementation of reforms.

During the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will also hold meetings with the President and Chief Executive Officer of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) and the foreign ministers of Latvia, Estonia and Finland.
