Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis: “The opening of the Embassy of Canada marks an important new stage in bilateral relations between Lithuania and Canada”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who came to Lithuania to participate in the NATO summit in Vilnius on 10 July, announced Tuesday that Canada would open its Embassy in Vilnius.
Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis congratulated the Canadian Government on this move.
“The opening of the Embassy and the appointment of an ambassador, who will reside in Lithuania, mark an important new stage in bilateral relations between Lithuania and Canada. Our countries’ joint commitment to democratic values and strengthening the transatlantic link lays a solid basis for further strengthening cooperation,” the Foreign Minister said.
From 15 January 1992 until now, the Office of the Embassy of Canada to Lithuania operated in Vilnius, and the Ambassador to Lithuania resided in Riga. The transformation of the Canadian Embassy’s office into an Embassy will contribute to developing and intensifying our economic, cultural and human relations.
On Monday, the first Ambassador of Canada who resides in Lithuania Jeanette Sautner presented her letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda.
