Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis: Russia's aggression against an independent state of Ukraine shows that, as long as the Kremlin's regime is in power, no one in Europe or the world can feel safe

On 27 May, the two-day long Vilnius Russia Forum, which was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis and prominent representatives of Russia's civil society, human rights defenders, experts from international analytical centers, journalists, academics and politicians, ended.

This year’s forum focused on Russian aggression against Ukraine, prospects for a democratic Russia, the deteriorating human rights situation in Russia, and the total persecution by regime of its own citizens. Over the past three months since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, about 4 million people have left Russia.

“Russia's aggression against an independent state of Ukraine has shown that, as long as the Kremlin's regime is in power, no one in Europe or the world will be able to feel safe. Nor can the Russians themselves, subjected to a sweeping crackdown or sent by the regime to die in its own war, feel safe. Therefore, it is important to help Ukraine and, at the same time, help those Russians in Russia and beyond, who believe in a democratic Russia, are helping the victims and countering the lies spread by the regime on a daily basis", Landsbergis said at a press conference.

The Vilnius Russian Forum has been held since 2014. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised the event in cooperation with the Eastern European Studies Centre.
