Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis opened the Lithuanian Embassy in Singapore: “We are opening yet another gateway to Southeast Asia”
During the working visit, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis, officially opened the Lithuanian Embassy to Singapore. In his welcome speech, Landsbergis noted that by opening the Lithuanian representation, we also opened another gateway to Southeast Asia, which will help promote economic development and innovation between the two countries.
“Let me sincerely thank everyone who has made this day a reality. The Embassy symbolises Lithuania’s new relationship with the Indo-Pacific region and its growing friendship with Singapore. Like we say in Europe, “For our freedom and yours,” said Landsbergis.
According to the Foreign Minister, this vital step fulfils Lithuania’s strategic commitment to expand ties with the Indo-Pacific region.
“During this government’s term, we have already opened Lithuanian Embassies to Australia and South Korea, as well as a trade representation office in Taiwan,” he said.
Ambassador Darius Gaidys stressed that Lithuania valued Singapore as a reliable intermediary when looking at other markets in Southeast Asia.
“Lithuania, although a maritime state, has not yet reached the Southeast Asia region widely. The official opening of the Embassy with the participation of Lithuanian and Singaporean Foreign Ministers symbolises the development of maritime, land and air routes for Lithuanian business, tourism and cultural exchanges,” the Ambassador said.
