Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis met with EC Vice President Jourova, representatives of META and Google to discuss the fight against Russia's propaganda and the duty of social platforms to spread the truth, not lies

On 18 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with Nick Clegg, META President for Global Relations, Matt Brittin, Google EMEA President and Vera Jourova, EC Vice President.

"Social networks, and Facebook in particular, play a significant role in rallying for Ukraine, informing the public about the war, strengthening resistance to Russian disinformation. Facebook representatives have promised to quickly find solutions so that the accounts of Lithuanian public figures and social activists are not blocked due to little linguistic nuances," said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy summarizing the meeting with Nick Clegg.

During a meeting with Matt Brittin, Google's EMEA President, the foreign minister discussed the responsibility of big tech companies in tackling propaganda and the use of the most advanced technologies for this. The head of Lithuania's diplomacy invited Google to cooperate in strengthening societies' resistance to disinformation and cyber attacks.

"Together with Vera Jourova, the EC Vice President, we agreed that Facebook and other social platforms must fight against Russian propaganda more efficiently, honour their commitments and serve to spread the truth, not lies," noted Landsbergis.
