Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis: “Lithuania and Denmark will direct every effort towards Ukraine’s EU accession”
On 4 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis received the new Ambassador of Denmark to Lithuania Grete Sillasen. The meeting discussed the agenda of bilateral relations, cooperation at NATO, the European Union (EU) and among the eight Nordic-Baltic countries.
The conversation focused on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. “Ukraine is already part of the European Union. It is beginning to carry out the necessary reforms and meet the requirements of the Community. Lithuania and Denmark are ready to share their experience and help Ukraine to begin EU accession talks faster,” Lithuania’s Foreign Minister said.
Landsbergis thanked Denmark for its military support to Ukraine – besides financial aid, Denmark provides Ukraine with various weapons, including F-16 fighter jets and assistance training Ukrainian pilots.
The Foreign Minister also underlined the importance of closer Nordic-Baltic cooperation, including in the field of renewable energy, the development of which is particularly advanced in Denmark.
Ambassador of Denmark Grete Sillasen presented her letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda on 12 September.
