Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis is attending a Ministerial Session of the Council of the Baltic Sea States in Kristiansand, Norway

On 24-25 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis is visiting Kristiansand, Norway, where he will attend the 19th Ministerial Session of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) along with other CBSS Ministers of Foreign Affairs and high-level representatives of the European Union.

The session will focus on Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, the possibilities of the CBSS member states to contribute to the provision of support for Ukraine, further strengthening of regional cooperation, involving young people and civil society, and the  opportunities for accelerating the green and digital transformation. The participating countries will also sign a joint political declaration.

Official ministerial sessions have not been held since 2014 in protest against the annexation of Crimea by Russia. When Russia launched a wide-ranging attack on Ukraine, its membership of the CBSS was suspended. The meeting is organized by Norway, which holds the presidency of the CBSS until the end of June.

In Kristiansand, Landsbergis will also meet with the Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt. During the bilateral meeting, the interlocutors will discuss the situation in Ukraine and eastern neighbours, preparations for the upcoming NATO summit in Madrid and other relevant issues.
