Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis in Rome: “Ukraine’s victory would help to end Russia’s chaotic agenda”

On 13 October, at the invitation of the Italian Istituto Affari Internazionali, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis, with Italian journalists and academic representatives, discussed the future of European security.

The Foreign Minister called on the international community not to allow other states’ conflicts to distract them from Russia’s war against Ukraine: “It is not too late to make decisions. We still have the opportunity to assess political decisions and help Ukraine win. We will solve the remaining issues when we fill this gap by supporting Ukraine.

During a discussion with Nathalie Tocci, head of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, the Foreign Minister noted that long-term support for  Ukraine would help build a credible and threat-resistant European security architecture.

“We firmly believe that Ukraine’s victory is crucial for stabilising the world, as it would help to end Russia’s chaotic agenda,” Landsbergis said.

He also spoke about the need to reduce economic and energy dependence on authoritarian regimes and to strengthen Europe’s defence capabilities further.
