Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis in Indonesia: “Lithuania’s experience is appreciated and helps businesses discover each other”
On Monday, 30 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis, together with the Lithuanian business delegation, is visiting Indonesia, where he met with Foreign Minister RetnoMarsudi.
“I am very pleased to visit Indonesia as we are marking the 30th anniversary of their bilateral relations. I would like us to celebrate the 30th anniversary in a quieter time. However, our countries rely on a rules-based international order to ensure the safety and well-being of our people. Whether it is Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East or any other future crisis, every violation of the international order will affect all of us,” the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said.
The Foreign Minister underlined that Lithuania was ready to establish mutually beneficial partnerships in Southeast Asia while contributing to global initiatives strengthening rules-based cooperation.
“Such strong and credible partnerships should be the cornerstone of an ever closer and mutually beneficial relationship between Europe and Southeast Asia,” Lithuania’s Foreign Minister said.
Landsbergis said both sides were interested in diversifying supply chains, strengthening cybersecurity and building resilience to hybrid threats. Lithuania supports the conclusion of a free trade agreement between the European Union and Indonesia as soon as possible.
The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy noted that both countries believed in a democratic free market policy. Therefore, Lithuania strongly supports Indonesia’s aspiration to become a member of the OECD and is ready to share its latest accession experience.
“I also welcome our growing economic ties in sectors such as information technology (IT), liquefied natural gas and renewable energy projects, agriculture and even space technologies,” Landsbergis said.
The Foreign Ministers also discussed successful university cooperation and the upcoming signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Lithuanian Basketball Federation and the Indonesian Basketball Association.
“Since Lithuania is the land of basketball, we could not leave Jakarta without laying the foundations for Indonesia to master this great game, too. For this purpose, the first contract between our basketball federations will be signed,” Landsbergis said at the meeting.
Landsbergis met with Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto on Monday.
“The diversification of export markets and strengthening partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region have yielded fruit. We are pleased that the Lithuanian company Teltonika is successfully operating in the region and has an office in Jakarta,” Landsbergis said at the meeting.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will also be signed in Jakarta on Monday. In 2022, the trade turnover of Lithuania and Indonesia increased by 106 per cent and reached EUR 58 million.
“I am delighted that our bilateral trade is growing rapidly. From high-tech to the energy sector and food industry, our companies are discovering Indonesia and are ready to establish themselves in the market,” said Landsbergis.
From 24 to 31 October, the Foreign Minister, together with the Lithuanian business delegation, is visiting Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia.
