Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis in Cairo: “Countries will seek to strengthen economic cooperation. Lithuania’s business potential in Egypt is well-known”

On Wednesday, 11 October, in Cairo, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the Egyptian Minister of Communication and Information Technology Amr Talaat. Landsbergis said that Lithuania and Egypt had a lot of untapped potential to strengthen cooperation in the field of high-tech, especially by expanding electronic services and cybersecurity.

“Lithuania’s experience in cybersecurity is recognized worldwide. Our companies are already implementing projects in Egypt in the financial sector and the field of telecommunications. There is a great opportunity for new mutually beneficial projects,” said Landsbergis.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in high-tech and communication, transport, energy, digitalization and green technologies.

Landsbergis also noted that Lithuania could share its experience in implementing the digital national health management information system.

“Lithuania is successfully implementing the reform of digitalization of public and administrative services, increasing cybersecurity and promoting digital skills in society. We are ready to share our experience,” said Landsbergis.

Opportunities for cooperation between universities were also discussed at the meeting. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Vilnius TECH),  Vytautas Magnus University and the University of Alexandria are already developing joint master’s programmes in applied computing. Lithuanian and Egyptian universities could also cooperate in developing information technology programmes for IT specialists.
