Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis: Emerging geopolitical changes affect the security situation not only in Europe, but also in the Middle East
On 4 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis, who is attending the Sir Bani Yas Forum in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), met with H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE. The meeting focused on bilateral political and economic cooperation, and topical issues of the Gulf region.
Landsbergis also discussed the situation in Lithuania’s neighbourhood — the emerging challenges in the face of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The Foreign Ministers also discussed the UAE's possible role in addressing the consequences of the war.
“Emerging geopolitical changes affect the security situation not only in Europe, but also in the Middle East. Iran’s participation in the war that Russia launched against Ukraine, once again shows that closer cooperation between our countries in addressing the emerging challenges can help both countries ensure greater longer-term security,” Landsbergis said.
In the meeting, the Foreign Ministers signed three international agreements between Lithuania and the UAE: a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, the Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, and the Extradition Agreement.
In Abu Dhabi, Landsbergis attends the annual Sir Bani Yas Forum, which is organised at the initiative of the UAE Foreign Minister Nahyan. The high-level event brings together foreign ministers, current and former senior officials, as well as international business leaders and experts.
