Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis discusses common challenges facing the EU’s Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Congress

On 6 September in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Congress Pau Mari-Klose. The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Lithuania and Spain, the response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, support for the unified Belarusian opposition, the region's security situation and security challenges related to ensuring energy security.

Landsbergis and Mari-Klose exchanged their views on the key challenges facing Europe’s Eastern and Southern neighbourhood.

“It is obvious that there are no individual problems of northern and southern Europe. The strength of the European Union lies in its unity. Therefore, we must work together to tackle the common challenges that we face,”Landsbergis said.

Lithuania's Foreign Minister thanked Spain for its efforts to strengthen the security of Lithuania and the Baltic states.

“Spain is an important friend and partner of Lithuania, and Lithuania highly appreciates the country’s contribution to strengthening the security of the Baltic states. We are grateful to Spain, which protected our airspace in the first half of this year and led NATO's air policing mission,” Landsbergis said.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Spain.
