Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis bids farewell to Australia’s outgoing Ambassador

On 6 December, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis bade to the outgoing Ambassador of Australia to Lithuania Lloyd Brodrick.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister thanked the Ambassador for his contribution to strengthening and developing bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Australia.

“Lithuania and Australia are like-minded countries. Despite the geographical distance, we can enjoy friendly and constructive relations, shared values and growing cooperation in the political, economic and security field,” Landsbergis said.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister and the Ambassador discussed economic cooperation between Lithuania and Australia - bilateral trade turnover has tripled since 2019. The interlocutors also touched upon essential cooperation achievements over the past years: Lithuania opened its embassy in Australia, the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) was opened in Vilnius, and the group for relations with the Baltic states was inaugurated in the Australian Parliament in Canberra on 15 June 2023.

The Foreign Minister and the Australian Ambassador briefly over-viewed Lithuania’s and Australia’s high-level visits in recent years. On 8 February 2022, Landsbergis visited Australia, the Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese visited Lithuania, where he participated at the NATO summit, and the President of Lithuania visited Australia in October 2023.

The Ambassador Brodrick presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda on 28 November 2019.
