Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis at the Warsaw Security Forum: "Ukraine must join NATO, and NATO's transatlantic security umbrella should also defend the countries that have been left in a grey geopolitical zone"

On 3 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis attended the Warsaw Security Forum and spoke at the ministerial panel discussion "Looking East: Change of Security Strategies in Western Europe".

"We live in a historical moment when a new Berlin Wall is being built. It is up to us only where the wall will be erected. We must spare no effort to keep Ukraine with its 1991 borders on this side. Efforts to strengthen the eastern flank depend on our will to defend ourselves – Germany's decision to permanently deploy a brigade in Lithuania is a true example of Zeitenwende. Ukraine must join NATO, and NATO's transatlantic security umbrella should also defend the countries that have been left in a grey geopolitical zone," the head of Lithuania's diplomacy said.

Landsbergis was joined by Iceland's Minister for Foreign Affairs Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörd Gylfadóttir, the Minister of Defence of the Netherlands Kasja Ollongren, and the British Minister of State for the Armed Forces James Stephen Heappey.

"Why, by saying that we will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes, we cannot clearly state that we are seeking Ukraine's victory? Ukraine's victory must be a strategic goal for all of us," Landsbergis said.

The Warsaw Security Forum is one of the leading European security conferences devoted to transatlantic cooperation and elaborating shared responses to everyday challenges, emphasizing the security of Central and Eastern Europe. Since its inception in 2014, the Forum has been organized by the Casimir Pulaski Foundation together with partners. This year's Forum's partner country is the United Kingdom.
