Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis at the informal meeting of EU foreign affairs ministers: “The EU must develop a strategy of resilience to China and not repeat mistakes made in engagement with Russia”

Today, on 12 May, EU ministers of foreign affairs gathered in Stockholm for the informal meeting (Gymnich).

Ahead of the meeting, the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy drew attention to the need to reduce the EU’s dependence from China at both tactical and strategic levels.

“The EU must develop a strategy of resilience to China and not repeat those big mistakes made in engagement with Russia,” Landsbergis said.

“Europe cannot only passively observe China’s efforts to change the international rules-based order. Europe has to be a proud shaper of the word's geopolitics and to engage with China from the position of strenght,” Lithuania’s Foreign Minister said.
