LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER IS CONTINUING HIS WORKING VISIT TO THE U.S.A.

Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas continues his first working visit to the U.S.A. On 9 March in Washington, Minister V.Ušackas will be received by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In Washington, the meetings of Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs are also planned with chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs Howard Berman, Senators Richard Durbin and John MacCain, Director of International Affairs at the American Jewish Committee rabbi Andrew Baker.

Minister V.Ušackas will also meet with national U.S. Security Adviser, Retired General James L.Jones.

During the meetings, it is intended to discuss key issues on the transatlantic agenda and the bilateral relations between Lithuania and the U.S.A.: NATO’s activities in Afghanistan, NATO’s future, NATO’s enlargement and relations with Russia, a response to the global economy crisis, energy security, NATO and the European Union’s policy regarding the Eastern European countries, the issues of restitution.

At the Johns Hopkins University, Minister V.Ušackas will give a lecture on the relations of the West, Russia and the Eastern Europe; he will also take part in the discussions on NATO’s future and energy security at the main U.S. centres for foreign policy research.
