LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER INVITED CANADIAN COMPANIES TO COOPERATE IN THE LITHUANIAN IT SECTOR
Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis, who is paying a visit to Canada with a delegation of entrepreneurs, presented to Canadian companies and institutions the investment opportunities in the Lithuanian Information Technology (IT) sector and plans for the development of this sector that are implemented by the Government of Lithuania. During the seminar of the Lithuanian Trade Mission to Canada at the Ontario Investment and Trade Centre in Toronto on 3 May, the Minister stressed the advantages of banking services, telecommunications and internet infrastructure integration in the Baltic States and Nordic countries.
Minister A.Ažubalis said that Lithuania was part of a successfully developing Northern European region, where a secure and stable environment for long-term investment was created.
The Minister also visited the Ontario Centres of Excellence, where he discussed the Canadian experience in promoting innovations and cooperation between academic institutions and business companies in applying the results of research to the market.
On the same day, Minister A.Ažubalis met with Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Monique Smith and Speaker of the Ontario Legislative Assembly Steve Peters. The negotiations on Canada-European Union free trade agreement were discussed during these meetings.
According to Minister A.Ažubalis, this ambitious agreement would be beneficial for Canada and for the EU, as well as for Lithuania.
Because of the large Ukrainian diaspora in Canada and Lithuania’s close ties with Ukraine, relations of this country with the EU and NATO received special attention during the conversations.
Charitable activities of Canada’s Lithuanian community and the community’s contribution to the promotion of business relations between Lithuania and Canada received positive assessment at all meetings in Toronto.
On 4 May in Ottawa, Minister A.Ažubalis is holding meetings with Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Lawrence Cannon, Minister of National Defence Peter MacKay, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney, Speaker of the House of Commons Peter Milliken, other Members of Parliament of Canada, and Ottawa Mayor Larry O’Brien. The Minister will also participate in the Baltic evening that is organized by the Baltic Federation in Canada at the Parliament of Canada.
