Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis: Unrest caused by terrorist organisations prompts illegal migration

On 28 June in Rome, Italy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis attended the Plenary Ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS along with forty other Ministers of the Coalition.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister noted that the unrest caused by various terrorist organisations, including Daesh/ISIS, contributed to the risk of illegal migration and forced displacement.

“In the last few weeks, my country has been facing this problem along the state border with neighbouring Belarus. When talking about the future tasks of the Coalition, we must remember that we can only prevent illegal migration by working together,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.

The most important international formats of the Coalition are the U.S.-led Operation in Iraq Inherent Resolve and the NATO Mission in Iraq. Lithuania is participating in the above-mentioned operation and mission, and plans to step up its contribution.

The Coalition’s 83 members are committed to degrading and ultimately defeating Daesh.

The Ministers of the Coalition also issued a Joint Communiqué.
