Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis to attend the Bucharest Nine meeting of Foreign Ministers in Bratislava

On 31 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis will participate in the Bucharest Nine (B9) meeting of Foreign Ministers in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The meeting will focus on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the security situation on NATO’s eastern flank, and preparations for a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs to be held on 6 and 7 April.
 
Foreign Ministers will also discuss strengthening NATO’s defence and deterrence posture, deliverables for the future meetings of NATO Foreign Ministers and leaders, including an update of the Alliance's strategic concept. Issues pertaining to strengthening support for Ukraine and the situation in the country will be discussed remotely with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

During his visit to Slovakia, Landsbergis will meet with the Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok  to discuss bilateral relations, priority items on the EU and international agendas, measures to support Ukraine, possible further international sanctions on Russia and Belarus, and challenges posed by China.

The Bucharest Nine (B9) brings together nine countries located on NATO's eastern flank: Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The B9 format was launched in Bucharest in November 2015. High-level representatives of the United States are also invited to take part in the B9 meetings. This time, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried will be representing the U.S. at the meeting.
