Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis to attend extraordinary meetings of NATO Foreign Affairs Ministers and of the Foreign Affairs Council
On 4 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis will attend the extraordinary meeting of NATO Foreign Affairs Ministers with Finland, Sweden and the EU, which will be held in Brussels, Belgium, in response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and a significant change in the European security situation.
NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs will discuss measures to strep up military, financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, impacts of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine on the security of NATO and EU countries, as well as additional steps to boost defence of the Alliance’s eastern flank. Foreign Ministers will also discuss the future of NATO’s relationship with Russia.
The meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs with Finland, Sweden and the EU will be attended by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
On the margins of the meeting, Landsbergis will hold a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Zbigniew Rau to discuss the implementation of security and defence cooperation initiatives presented by Lithuania.
On the same day, Landsbergis will also attend the extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council that will focus on Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The situation in Ukraine will be presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba. The meeting will also be attended by the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, and the British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.
