On 5 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis had a telephone conversation with the U.S. Representative, Co-Chair of the House Baltic Caucus Don Bacon and discussed the situation in Russia, Belarus, and the region, important bilateral and multilateral issues of the U.S.-Lithuanian relationship, as well as international security policy.
Landsbergis welcomed the strong U.S. commitment to ensure the security of the Baltic Sea Region. “Lithuania and the United States have preserved their long-term relationship, fought shoulder to shoulder in our struggle for independence, and we are extremely grateful to the United States for this,” said Lithuania's Foreign Minister.
Landsbergis called on the U.S. to increase its investment in Lithuania’s defence capabilities, thanked for backing the Baltic Security Initiative, and also informed that Lithuania was ready to provide Host Nation Support to the U.S. forces located in the region. When speaking about the importance of transatlantic cooperation, the Foreign Minister noted that the need for cooperation of NATO allies on critical issues in the region had increased.
