Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis after meeting his Turkish counterpart: Turkey’s experience is important for preventing illegal migration from Belarus

On 27June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and briefed him on the Belarusian hybrid attack against Europe - the facilitation of irregular migration to Lithuania.

“In response to EU sanctions, Belarus has sent illegal Iraqi and Syrian migrants across the Lithuanian border. Turkey’s experience in preventing irregular migration could be a very important tool to help us deal with this artificially created crisis,” said Landsbergis after meeting with his Turkish counterpart.

On 28 June, both Foreign Ministers are participating in the Plenary Ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS. They also discussed security situation in the Eastern Partnership region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey accepted the invitation of Landsbergis to attend the Ukraine Reform Conference, which will be held in Vilnius on 7-8 July.
