LITHUANIA‘S FOREIGN MINISTER ENCOURAGES TO CONTINUE THE EU AND NATO ENLARGEMENT TOWARDS MACEDONIA
On 26 March, Lithuania‘s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas received head of Macedonia‘s diplomacy Antonio Milososki who was on an official visit to Lithuania. The Ministers discussed bilateral political and economic cooperation, Macedonia‘s integration into the European Union and NATO. “Lithuania supports Macedonia’s membership in the EU and NATO. Without Macedonia in NATO the objectives of the Vilnius Ten Group will not be fully achieved. Experts from Lithuania are ready to share with Macedonia the experience of implementing reforms”, head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said.
Macedonia is the only of the countries from the Vilnius Ten Group who is still not invited to join NATO.
“We are glad about the successful course of the first round of Presidential and local elections which took place in Macedonia. We also encourage to pass the democracy test in the second round which is scheduled for 5 April”, Minister V.Ušackas noted.
Head of Lithuania’s diplomacy invited Macedonia to intensify economic cooperation and to sign bilateral agreements on the promotion and protection of investments as well as on the cooperation in the field of culture.
During the visit, the Ministers signed a cooperation protocol between the ministries of foreign affairs of Lithuania and Macedonia. The protocol will facilitate possibilities to strengthen cooperation between the two ministries on the EU, NATO and multilateral issues, to expand the network of cooperation between embassies in third countries and to implement exchanges of officials, experts and interns.
Lithuanian and Macedonian foreign ministers also discussed the situation in the Western Balkans, the experience of regional cooperation in the Baltic Sea region and important energy issues.
