Lithuania’s Foreign Minister discusses bilateral cooperation and security issues with Canada’s new Ambassador
On 20 February in Vilnius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius received Canada’s new Ambassador to Lithuania Alain Hausser and discussed bilateral cooperation, security situation in the region, cooperation within NATO, the United Nations and other multilateral forums. Minister Linkevičius expressed Lithuania’s gratitude for Canada’s participation in the air-policing mission in the Baltic States last year and for Canada’s financial support for the Vilnius-based NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence.
The situation in Ukraine and implementation of decisions of the NATO Summit in Wales were touched upon at the meeting. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister asked Canada to support Lithuania’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) during the talks at the OECD Council.
Canadian Ambassador Hausser presented credential letters to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on 20 February, being the eighth Canadian Ambassador who resides in Latvia. The Embassy of Canada to Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia was opened on 4 September 1993 in Riga. The Office of the Embassy of Canada in Vilnius was opened on 15 January 1992.
