Lithuania’s Foreign Minister congratulates United States on Independence Day
On 4 July, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the country‘s Independence Day.
In his letter of congratulations, the Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership with the U.S. and thanked the country for its efforts to ensure security of Lithuania and the region as a whole. L. Linkevičius stressed the need to find common transatlantic solutions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other global challenges.
Lithuania's Foreign Minister also invited M. Pompeo to mark the 80th anniversary of the Sumner Welles Declaration on 23 July together and noted the importance of the U.S. non-recognition policy of the forced annexation and incorporation of Lithuania and other Baltic states into the Soviet Union. In addition, L. Linkevičius welcomed the close bilateral political, economic, military, cultural and people-to-people relations between Lithuania and the United States.
