Lithuania’s Foreign Minister congratulates New Zealand on its national holiday

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated New Zealand on its national holiday, which is celebrated on 6 February. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister sent a letter to New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Murray McCully. According to Linkevičius, the excellent and longstanding relationship between the countries is based on sincere friendship and our shared values.

According to Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, the visit of New Zealand’s Foreign Minister to Vilnius last June and a working holiday scheme agreement that entered into force at the beginning of 2017 will even further strengthen the mutual relationship between Lithuania and New Zealand.

The working holiday scheme agreement between Lithuania and New Zealand entered into force on 1 January 2017. In accordance with the agreement, Lithuanian young people aged between 18 and 30 would be given an opportunity to travel to New Zealand and to undertake employment during their stay. The participants in the working holiday scheme are allowed to remain in New Zealand for a total of 12 months, as well as to study and work in order to supplement their travels.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linkevičius and New Zealand’s Foreign Minister McCully signed the agreement on 1 October 2015 at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
