Lithuania’s Foreign Minister congratulates Kyrgyzstan on the 25th anniversary of Independence

On 31 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Abdyldaev Erlan on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Independence and stressed the importance of successful bilateral cooperation for strengthening people-to-people links.

“I sincerely hope that the successful cooperation between Lithuania and Kyrgyzstan will open up more opportunities for the people of our countries to develop mutually beneficial bilateral initiatives in the spheres of business, science, education, culture and tourism,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.

The economic relationship between Lithuania and Kyrgyzstan has intensified these last ten years. The bilateral trade turnover increased 18 times. In 2015, the trade turnover amounted to 39.5 million euros.

The two countries are linked by cultural ties, enriched by Algimantas Vidugiris (1936–2010), a famous Kyrgyz film-maker, playwright, publicist, scientist and academician, who was one of the founders of the Kyrgyz national cinema.

Kyrgyzstan declared its independence on 31 August 1991.
