Lithuania’s Foreign Minister congratulates his Italian counterpart on National Day

On 2 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Angelino Alfano on Italy’s National Day, and wished welfare and prosperity for the whole country as well as its citizens.

“Lithuania and Italy enjoy friendly bilateral relations, based on trust and shared values. Today we are facing challenges that pose a threat to our region, so Lithuania and Italy are ready to cooperate even closer with each other as members of the European Union and NATO,” says Lithuania’s Foreign Minister in the letter.

Linkevičius also expressed his confidence that Italy’s non-permanent membership of the United Nations (UN) Security Council would contribute to addressing global challenges of today – migration, the fight against terrorism and climate change.

Italy will serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2017.
