Lithuania’s Foreign Minister congratulates Germany on the Day of Unity

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier on the country’s celebration of the Day of German Unity and thanked Germany for its support of Lithuania’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

“This year, Lithuania celebrates the 25th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with Germany. Over the years, Germany has become an important political and economic partner of Lithuania. The countries have also enjoyed close cultural ties,” reads the letter by Linkevičius.

According to Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, Germany has made a very significant contribution to security in the region and the Baltic states. In his letter, Linkevičius thanked Germany for its contribution to NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission and for its decision to assume a leading role in the formation of NATO’s multinational battalion in Lithuania.

The Day of German Unity commemorates the reunification of East and West Germany on 3 October 1990.
