Lithuania’s Foreign Minister congratulates Brazil on Independence Day
On 7 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Brazilian Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira Filho on the country’s Independence Day.
In his letter of congratulations, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister welcomed the intensifying bilateral relations between Lithuania and Brazil, and called for further strengthening of mutually beneficial political and economic ties. The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy also repeatedly invited his Brazilian counterpart to visit Lithuania.
Lithuania and Brazil established their diplomatic relations in 1931. Lithuania’s consulates in Brazil operated until 1961. The countries re-established their diplomatic relations on 5 November 1991. Currently, Lithuania has its Consulate General in São Paulo. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius paid an official visit to Brazil in April 2015.
