LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER CONGRATULATED GREEK PRIME MINISTER ON HIS APPOINTMENT
Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas sent a congratulatory letter to George A. Papandreou after he was appointed as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Greece.
After the snap parliamentary election on 4 October in Greece, which the Greek Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) won, the new ministers’ cabinet of Greece was appointed on 7 October. G.A.Papandreou became the Prime Minister. He is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs. G.A.Papandreou already held the office of Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1999-2004.
G.A.Papandreou is a great grandson of Zigmantas Mineika (1840-1925), who was born in Ašmena region and studied at a gymnasium in Vilnius. Z.Mineika headed a platoon during the uprising in 1862 in Vilnius.
Dimitris Droutsas, former Head of the Cabinet of PASOK’s President George Papandreou, is appointed as Alternate Foreign Minister.
In the letter, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that an intensive dialogue between Lithuania and Greece would continue successfully, especially as the EU presidencies of the countries were approaching.
