Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Budrys: “A country which draws its strength from respect for diversity is safe”

On 30 December, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, attended the lighting ceremony of the sixth Hanukkah candle organised by the Lithuanian Jewish Community.

According to the Foreign Minister, the Jewish community has a special place in Lithuania’s history. This community has made a significant contribution to the culture, science, business, and spirit of our country. At the same time, its traditions and heritage are an integral part of Lithuania’s identity.

“Lithuania’s security today goes beyond our military capabilities and membership in international organisations. The security of our country is also the strength, unity and ability of our society to foster mutual understanding and communion. The Lithuanian Jewish Community is a clear proof that a country which draws its strength from respect for diversity is safe,” Minister Budrys said after the event.

According to the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy, when the geopolitical situation in the world and our region is difficult, we all need to cherish, protect and foster the values that create peace and stability among and around us.

The Foreign Minister thanked the Lithuanian Jewish Community for their contribution to the life of our state and their efforts in strengthening our country’s culture, memory, and international prestige.
