LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER BIDS FAREWELL TO THE OUTGOING CZECH AMBASSADOR

On 10 December, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas met with outgoing Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Lithuania Alois Buchta. The Minister thanked the Ambassador for his active contribution into the development of bilateral relations. Minister V.Ušackas highlighted the important role of the embassy during the Czech EU Presidency and welcomed the close cooperation between the countries, especially in the areas of the EU’s Eastern Partnership and energy security. The Czech Republic held the EU Presidency in the first half-year of 2009.

The Minister also thanked the Ambassador for the efforts of the Czech Republic to increase security in the region and for the air-policing mission that the Czech air contingent carried out at Zokniai airport in the summer of 2009.

Lithuania and the Czech Republic established diplomatic relations on 9 September 1991.
