LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER BIDS FAREWELL TO THE OUTGOING AMBASSADOR OF ISRAEL
On 23 August, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis bade farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of Israel Chen Ivri Apter.The Minister highlighted historical links between Lithuania and Israel, as well as good bilateral relations.
Lithuania and Israel are actively developing mutual political and social dialogue, economic and trade relations, tourism exchange.
Minister A.Ažubalis and Ambassador Ch.Ivri Apter spoke about the need to focus even more on drawing the societies of Lithuania and Israel, especially the youth, closer and to preserve the heritage of the Jewish people in Lithuania.
The Minister thanked the Ambassador for his personal contribution to the development of bilateral relations and for his active involvement in fostering close relations between Lithuania and Israel.
Israeli Ambassador Ch.Ivri Apter resides in Riga. The Ambassador has been accredited to Lithuania since 2006.
In 2009, Lithuanian-Israeli trade turnover amounted to 17.2 million euro. In the first quarter of 2010, as compared with the same period in 2009, the turnover increased by 9.3 percent.
On 1 January 2010, Israel’s direct investment in Lithuania amounted to 16.6 million euro (24 investors).
