LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER AND THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC DISCUSS PRIORITIES OF THE CZECH EU PRESIDENCY

On 15 January in Vilnius, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Tomash Poyar. They discussed priorities of the Czech EU Presidency: economy, energy and the role of the European Union in the world. During the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged their opinions on the critical energy situation that has aggravated after the disagreements between Russia and Ukraine regarding the provision of gas supplies and discussed possible further steps of the countries, while seeking to ensure energy security in the region.

The interlocutors also discussed other important issues of an international and EU agenda during the meeting. While speaking about energy security projects, Minister V.Ušackas thanked for the support for an important to Lithuania Baltic Interconnection Plan and expressed hope regarding further close cooperation.
