LITHUANIA’S EMBASSY TO INDIA ISSUED THE FIRST VISA

Having fully launched the consular procedures management system at the Lithuanian Embassy to India, it started issuing Schengen visas and national Lithuanian visas on 10 April. Issuance of visas for citizens of India in Delhi will facilitate the procedures that are necessary for them in order to visit Lithuania. Therefore, we are hoping that bilateral economic and cultural cooperation will strengthen.

Until now, visas for the citizens of India used to be issued at a Lithuanian embassy that is closest to the Schengen area (for example, in Moscow, London, etc.).

The Lithuanian Embassy to India started its activities in July 2008.

Visas of India for Lithuanian citizens are issued at the Embassy of India in Warsaw.

India is an important trade partner of Lithuania. In 2008, bilateral trade turnover amounted to 1010.6 million Litas. The trade balance was positive and amounted to 835.6 million Litas. As compared to 2007, in 2008 Lithuanian exports to India (923.1 million Litas) grew by 2704.2 percent. The reason of such a big growth in export volume was the increase of fertiliser exports.

The biggest Asian investor in Lithuania is the India capital company Indorama, registered in Thailand. It has already invested about 23 million euros.
