LITHUANIA‘S BILATERAL COOPERATION WITH GEORGIA AND SLOVENIA WAS DISCUSSED IN BLED
On 27 August Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas who took part in the Strategic Forum “Caspian Outlook 2008” in Bled, Slovenia met with the Vice Prime Minister and State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration George Baramidze and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia Dimitrij Rupel to discuss bilateral relations.
The Vice Prime Minister of Georgia Baramidze thanked Lithuania for support for Georgia’s aspirations to Euro-Atlantic integration. The participants of the meeting discussed the situation in the South Caucasus, Georgia’s relations with the European Union, NATO and Russia as well as the progress of reforms in Georgia.
In the meeting with Slovenian Foreign Minister Rupel possibilities to expand diplomatic representation in the first half of 2008 were addressed. The ministers also exchanged opinions on important issues of international and EU politics – the EU Neighbourhood policy, situation in Belarus, Western Balkans and the Near East.
Slovenian Foreign Minister informed his Lithuanian counterpart about Slovenia’s preparations for the EU Presidency in 2008.
The Strategic Forum in Bled aimed at discussions on the EU energy resources and perspectives of the EU relations with Eastern neighbours.
