Lithuania’s Ambassador to Canada presents his letters of credence to the Governor General of Canada

On 31 August in Ottawa, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Canada Darius Pranckevičius presented his letters of credence to the Governor General of Canada David Johnston. During the ceremony, the officials discussed their mutual resolve to develop relations between Lithuania and Canada in addressing important issues on the bilateral and international agenda. The interlocutors also reviewed new opportunities in the areas of investment and trade that would open up in the near future upon the provisional application of the new trade agreement between the EU and Canada (CETA).

The interlocutors also drew attention to the development of military relations, the transatlantic and Baltic Sea region’s security issues, important items on NATO’s agenda, and support for Ukraine. The Ambassador congratulated the Governor General of Canada on the 150th anniversary of Confederation. According to Pranckevičius, Canada’s Lithuanian community in Ottawa organised a major event dedicated to the anniversary of Canada in this summer.

Pranckevičius thanked the Governor General for Canada’s historical assistance in supporting the statehood of Lithuania, the contribution of the country’s military forces to the strengthening of the security of NATO’s member countries in Eastern Europe, as well as for Canada’s important input into the Alliance’s collective defence efforts.
