Lithuania's Ambassador presented his letters of credence to the Irish President
On 8 December, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Ireland Marijus Gudynas presented his letters of credence to the President of Ireland Michael Daniel Higgins.
Gudynas highlighted the important role of the local Lithuanian community in the development of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Ireland, and Lithuania’s aim to strengthen political, economic, scientific and cultural cooperation. Lithuania's Ambassador also invited the President of Ireland to visit Lithuania again in 2022, when Kaunas would be the European Capital of Culture.
The President Higgins warmly remembered his visit to Lithuania in 2018 and noted that Ireland was interested in deepening and expanding bilateral cooperation with Lithuania in all areas, and in developing regional cooperation with the Nordic and Baltic states. The Irish President also welcomed the contribution by the Lithuanian community to the building and consolidation of the country.
After the ceremony, Lithuania's Ambassador and the Irish President held a bilateral meeting, which focused on cooperation within the European Union, strengthening transatlantic partnership, as well as cooperation in the Eastern Partnership region.
