LITHUANIA’S AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF IRELAND
On 11 September in Dublin, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Ireland Vidmantas Purlys presented credentials to President of Ireland Mary McAleese. The Ambassador expressed satisfaction about good bilateral relations, close cooperation in the European Union and other international organisations.
Ambassador V.Purlys stressed that the Irish EU Presidency during the first half-year of 2013, and Lithuania’s EU Presidency during the second half-year of 2013 was an important European task that Lithuania and Ireland shared. While preparing to achieve this goal, the relations of Governments and civil societies would continue to be deepened.
The Ambassador remarked that a numerous community of Lithuanians, who live and work in Ireland, enriched the relations between Lithuania and Ireland, contributed to the development of cultural, economic and social exchange between the two countries and strengthened human ties.
President M.McAleese said that the Lithuanians excellently represented their country in Ireland, which had friendly welcomed all the newcomers from other EU countries during the last decade.
V.Purlys is the second Ambassador of Lithuania to Ireland. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of the Director of the EU Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Lithuania and Ireland established diplomatic relations on 2 September 1991.
