LITHUANIA’S AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE CHAIRMAN OF THE PARLIAMENT OF MOLDOVA

On 2 December, Lithuania’s Ambassador Violeta Motulaitė presented her credentials to Moldova’s Acting President, Chairman of the Parliament Mihai Ghimpu. During the ceremony, Lithuania’s Ambassador noted that the relations between Lithuania and Moldova were friendly and strong.

“I will make every effort to continue strengthening and fostering our friendship and mutual understanding,” the Ambassador said.

Acting President M.Ghimpu noted that the agenda of bilateral and multilateral relations between Lithuania and Moldova was intensive and expressed trust that the countries would continue to develop this mutually beneficial cooperation and would promote bilateral trade.

“We are waiting for Lithuanian investors in Moldova, which is currently reforming its economy,” M.Ghimpu noted during the conversation.

According to him, Lithuania is a very important supporter of Moldova’s European integration goals.

“We expect your support also in the future. Moldova can create secure and prosperous future for its citizens only in Europe,” the head of Moldova said.

Ambassador V.Motulaitė stressed that Lithuania would continue to share its experience of implementing reforms and would remain a strong supporter of Moldova’s European integration goals.

The Ambassador emphasized that Lithuania, which would celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the reestablishment of its independence in 2010, would never forget that the Supreme Council of Moldova was the first to recognize Lithuania’s independence on 31 May 1990. Ambassador V.Motulaitė thanked Moldova’s Acting President M.Ghimpu for his personal contribution supporting the independence of Lithuania.

“In those days, the Reform Movement of Lithuania Sąjūdis was in step with the Popular Front of Moldova. I trust that in the future we shall belong to single European family again,” said M.Ghimpu.

Lithuania and Moldova established diplomatic relations on 8 July 1992.
