LITHUANIANS AROUND THE WORLD CELEBRATED THE DAY OF LITHUANIAN STATE

Lithuanian diplomatic representations and Lithuanian community all over the world celebrate the 6th of July – the Day of the State (the Coronation of King Mindaugas).

On 4 July on occasion of the Day of the State Lithuanian Embassy in Riga together with Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas’  Library  and Latvian National Library opened an exhibition of a photographer of Lithuanian emigration Algimantas Kezys called “Chicago”.

On 5 July Lithuanian Embassy and Lithuanian Consulate General in Warsaw celebrated the Day of the State in the new Lithuanian Centre together with the members of Lithuanian community, members of Polish Seimas, Government and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps.

On 5 July Lithuanian Embassy in Minsk organized an event of music and poetry „Magnus Ducatus Poesis: across the borders“. The poetry was read by Lithuanian, Latvian, Belarusian, Ukrainian and Russian poets,  the music was played by Lithuanian, Latvian, and Belarusian musicians.

On 4 July Lithuanian Embassy in Moscow presented Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis‘ album “Pictures, sketches, ideas” in the House of Jurgis Baltrušaitis. The event included performance of the composer’s music for the piano, exhibition of the artist’s photography works.

On 4 July on initiative of Lithuanian Consulate General in Saint Petersburg choir „Virgo“ and choir „Pro Musica“ had a concert in Novgorod. On 8 July a retrospective exhibition of the artists’ plain-airs and symposiums “Soutine Days” will be opened in Kremlin museum reserve in Pskov. Works of Lithuanian, Belarusian, Polish and German artists will be exhibited.

On 1 July Lithuanian Consulate General in Kaliningrad commemorating the Day of the State opened an exhibition of works of Lithuanian marine painter from Klaipeda Edvardas Malinauskas in the Museum of the Ocean.

On 4 July an exhibition of Antanas Sutkus “Daily Life Archives” was opened on occasion of the Day of the State in the Parliament of Scotland. The exhibition was opened at a reception in honour of the visit by  the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus.

On 6 July a detailed model of the University of Vilnius was opened on occasion of the Day of the State in the Mini Europe Park in Brussels.  The representatives of Lithuanian, Belgian and EU’s institutions, diplomats and members of Lithuanian community were welcomed by the rector of Vilnius University Benediktas Juodka.
