LITHUANIAN VICE-MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS THANKS THE DUTCH AMBASSADOR TO LITHUANIA FOR HIS ACTIVE WORK IN DEVELOPING BILATERAL RELATIONS

On 18 August Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius met with the outgoing Dutch Ambassador to Lithuania Josephus Camille Stephan Wijnands  and thanked him for active work in developing bilateral relations.

The participants of the meeting also shared opinions on possibilities of further economic cooperation between Lithuania and the Netherlands.

The Netherlands, although not a neighbouring country, currently take the fifth place among Lithuania’s foreign trade partners.

Discussing the situation in Belarus, E.Ignatavičius thanked the Ambassador for the support granted by the Dutch Government to Belarusian European Humanities University (EHU) operating in exile in Vilnius.

The Vice-Minister and the Ambassador also discussed possibilities for increasing support for Belarusian opposition and its better coordination as well as the need to improve the functioning of the visa issue system in the Schengen area.

This year on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and the Netherlands Lithuanian Foreign Ministry and Vilnius City Municipality together with the Dutch Embassy organized the first World Press Photo exhibition in the open air.

World Press Photo is a non-profit organization promoting work of professional press photographers and organizing annual press photography contest. From 6 June to 3 July 65 winner photos selected by an international jury from 109 thousand were exhibited at Lukiškės Square.

The Dutch Ambassador presented credentials to the President Dalia Grybauskaitė on 14 September, 2009.

Prior to the appointment to Lithuania J.C.S. Wijnands  worked in Dutch embassies in Croatia and Hungary and has occupied various positions at Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
