Lithuanian, Ukrainian and Swedish Foreign Ministers pay tribute to those who gave their lives for freedom of Lithuania

On 14 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius started a  working visit to Ukraine.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister met with the head of the Odessa Regional State Administration Maxim Stepanov and discussed economic cooperation, as well as  security situation in the region. Linkevičius stressed that Ukraine’s success in achieving a visa-free regime with the European Union was also Lithuania’s success. Facilitated travel will undoubtedly contribute to the development of economic cooperation between Lithuania and the Odessa region. In the summer, there are direct flights to Odessa from Vilnius.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also visited injured soldiers who are being treated in the Odessa hospital. Lithuania has taken in more than 150 Ukrainian soldiers for rehabilitation. It is the largest number of soldiers received by all countries that support Ukraine.

The Lithuanian, Ukrainian and Swedish Foreign Ministers met with students of higher education institutions in Odessa and discussed Ukraine’s European future, as well as developments in the country. On Lithuania’s Day of Mourning and Hope, the Foreign Ministers and students joined together in the Lithuanian campaign to observe a minute of silence to honour the fallen.

Today, Lithuanian Days kick off in Odessa. The celebration will be attended by the Lithuanian, Swedish and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers. This week, for the third year in a row, Odessa residents and guests will be given the opportunity to get acquainted with Lithuanian folk art, traditional crafts, cuisine and tourism opportunities.
