LITHUANIAN-UKRAINIAN AGREEMENT ON MUTUAL TRAVEL SIGNED

On 25 February in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers on travel of citizens of both countries was signed. The document was signed by the Lithuanian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers Antanas Valionis and Kostyantyn Gryshchenko who visited Lithuanian on 25-26 February on an official visit. At the press conference after the signature, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis stated that the Agreement would allow Lithuanians to travel without visas to Ukraine and Ukrainian citizens to arrive in Lithuania with long-term visas issued free of charge. Before signing the Agreement, Antanas Valionis and Kostyantyn Gryshchenko discussed the development of bilateral political and economic relations, also bilateral relations within the EU context, Ukranian relations with the EU and NATO, preparation for NATO summit in Istanbul, negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the World Trade Organisation and other topical issues. According to Minister Valionis, Lithuania and Ukraine are currently preparing bilateral agreements on cooperation in tourism and fight against organised crime, also on city twinning of Alytus and Zhytomir.
